A Game Worthy of Next-Gen Consoles - Black Myth Wukong

Last month, there is this one game that has become an instant sensation, I’m referring of course to Black Myth Wukong from Game Science Studio. This Chinese indie development studio that is creating this journey to the west inspired action RPG, it looks amazing and many others seem to agree.

So right here is the video uploaded to the official Back Myth YouTube channel it’s already got 800 000 views 30 000 likes versus 268 dislikes that’s over 99 percent likes ratio right here. IGN uploaded to their channel this has gone viral to 2.8 million views 146 000 likes and only 2.1k dislikes, a pretty great ratio all around.

Suffice to say that the general consensus surrounding this game is that it has so much potential if this is just a glimpse of what’s to come and then in China, this game gained even more traction with the title gaining over 10 million views on Chinese video site BiliBili alone.

It should also be emphasized that the gameplay trailer wasn’t some fake footage that’s actually pre-rendered and made to look like it was gameplay. There’s actually a video out there of the CEO of Game Science studio interacting with the game and then the game is actually playable so yes you get the idea, this game blew up in ways that not even the developer expected and in fact, the developer has gone ahead and responded to the positive response via outlet Weibo which is a Chinese social media website.

The developer posted everything in Chinese, IGN confirmed that there was an accurate translation, the lead dev had to say with the lead being Feng Ji the founder of Game Science Studio, so he said that he wanted to expand the development team and recruit more people so that’s why he decided to release this early look at the game so that the talent could look at the footage and gauge what this company is doing and maybe think about joining the studio to finish this title.

Obviously with how much traction the game has garnered it would be plausible to imagine that they’ve been receiving applications left and right. The next bullet point says in the translation say that Feng Ji just wanted to record an honest trailer for purpose of recruitment and didn’t expect to be praised so much. Prior to releasing the trailer he just couldn’t get that many people on board but after the release of the trailer, I imagine that he’s finding a lot of good talent, who are interested in realizing what looks to be a really compelling vision.

Now instead of patting himself on the back after the 13-minute gameplay trailer went viral Feng Ji said went ahead and pointed out what’s wrong with the trailer so it reads right here there are a lot of patchworks and rough aspects on what was shared of the trailer he then talks about areas of the game that in his view were still poor in shape, something in regards to the animation of small bodies and in regards to how they made the sculpt mold of the golden cicada refers to one of Sun Wukong’s transformations among them being this bug. Honestly, the bug model looks great in my eyes, but I guess there are details that uh Feng Ji wants to add to it, he says that the sculpt and mold is not quite there.

It’s good to see that a developer is just self-aware and it’s just constantly striving for perfection and wanting to improve and really trying to give people the best experience possible and with the game sort of still being in early to mid-development, we as gamers can just wait.
